CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker in double overtime 3-2 to Holy Family University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 4-3-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the CACC, while the Tigers improve to 5-5-0 and 5-1-0 in conference play.
Holy Family got on the board late in the first half as they netted the first goal of the game in the 35
th minute of play. The Tigers added a second goal just before halftime to hold a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Cougars battled back in the second half as senior
Meghan Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) netted a goal off an assist from freshman
Sarah Costanza (Morris Plains, N.J.) in the first minute.
Caldwell evened the game just over a minute later as Costanza tallied the equalizer to tie the game at two.
The score remained tied through the remainder of the second half and headed to overtime. The teams battled through a scoreless first overtime but the Tigers broke through with the game-winner with 17 seconds left in the second overtime period.
Sophomore
Jamie-Lee Bamford (Braintree, United Kingdom) recorded four saves.
The Cougars host Bloomfield College in a CACC contest on Tuesday, October 15 at 3:30 pm.
