Women’s Basketball Battles, Comes Up Short to #9 USciences

CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's basketball team battled #9 University of the Sciences but came up short 56-42 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
 
The Cougars fall to 4-13 and 4-6 in the CACC, while the Devils improve to 18-1 and 9-1 in conference play.  
 
The teams traded leads through most of the first half as the Cougars held a 15-12 lead late in the first quarter. The Devils pulled even at 17 but senior Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) connected on a lay-up early in the second quarter to put Caldwell in front 21-17.
 
USciences closed the first half with a late run as they held a 30-27 lead at halftime.
 
The Devils extended their lead to 31-27 early in the third quarter. Caldwell battled back as freshman Tamrin Henderson (Woodbridge, Va.) netted a pair of buckets. Sophomore Calimah Singletary (Spring Valley, N.Y.) scored in the paint at the 7:07 mark to tie the game at 33.
 
USciences rallied back as they pushed ahead 45-34 early in the fourth quarter. The Cougars scored eight straight points to cut the score to three points. Lennon drained a pair from the line, while senior Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass.) netted a lay-up at the 4:01 mark to cut the score to 45-42. The Devils netted the final 11 points of the game to hold off the Cougars down the stretch.
 
Siscamanis led the way with 11 points and three rebounds. Henderson totaled 10 points and four boards. Lennon tallied seven points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
 
The Cougars host Post University in a CACC North Division clash on Wednesday, January 30 at 5:30 pm.
 
Wednesday's doubleheader will be the "Green Game" for the men's and women's basketball teams. The department initiative in conjunction with the CACC are promoting mental health awareness issues with the goal of breaking the stigma and letting individuals know it is okay to discuss mental struggles they are dealing with.
