CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior
Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) led the way with 17 points as the Cougars defeated Post University 61-47 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 5-13 overall and 5-6 in the CACC, while the Eagles drop to 8-11 and 4-7 in conference play.
The Eagles raced out to a 10-5 lead midway through the opening quarter. The Cougars answered with a 14-3 run to take a six-point lead early in the second quarter. Senior
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) drained a triple and added a three-point play in the run. Freshman
Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) netted six points and capped the run at the 9:21 mark of the second quarter to give the Cougars a 19-13 lead.
Post rallied back as they took a 23-21 lead with 4:24 left in the first half. Caldwell battled back as Lebron drained a triple to help the Cougars go back in front 28-23. The Eagles scored the final seven points of the first half as they took a 30-28 lead at halftime.
The teams traded leads over the first four minutes of the third quarter as Lebron scored six points for Caldwell as the game was tied at 34 at the 6:34 mark. Caldwell took control of the game with a 20-4 run that stretched into the fourth quarter. Dits netted seven points, while Lebron drained a triple. Lennon scored six points as she drained a three-pointer and capped the run with two free throws to give Caldwell a 54-38 lead with 3:50 left in the game
Lebron led the way with 17 points in the win. Dits posted a double-double as she finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Lennon tallied 14 points, four boards and six assists.
The Cougars travel to Wilmington University for a CACC contest on Saturday, February 2 at 1:00 pm.
