WILMINGTON Del.- Caldwell University women's basketball senior
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) dropped in a career-high 25 points as the Cougars fell to Goldey-Beacom College 77-72 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 3-11 overall and 3-4 in the CACC, while the Lightning improve to 8-8 and 4-3 in conference play.
Caldwell took the early lead as they connected on six three-pointers in the first half. Junior
Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) connected on a pair from downtown in the opening quarter. Freshman
Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) added a triple early in the second quarter as Caldwell held their largest of the game at 23-17.
Goldey-Beacom rallied to close out the first half as they pulled ahead 36-30 at halftime. The Lightning extended their lead to nine points early in the third quarter but the Cougars battled back.
Caldwell used a 21-7 run to pull ahead by five points. Lennon and Lebron each connected on a triple and totaled seven points in the run as the Cougars took a 53-48 lead with under a minute to play in the quarter.
The Lightning rallied back to push ahead by double digits midway through the fourth quarter. Caldwell closed the gap to three points at 67-64 following a Lebron trifecta. Goldey-Beacom held off the Cougars down the stretch with a pair of free throws in the final minute.
Lennon shot 11-for-16 from the field as she tallied 25 points, three rebounds, five assists and two steals. Lebron shot 4-for-8 from downtown as she finished with 18 points. Graduate
Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italy) chipped in 17 points, four boards and four assists. Dits posted nine points and seven rebounds, while freshman
Tamrin Henderson (Woodbridge, Va.) grabbed seven rebounds.
