Women’s Basketball Uses Balanced Attack in Win over Nyack

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball freshman Tamrin Henderson (Woodbridge, Va.) led five players in double figures as the Cougars defeated Nyack College 86-64 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
 
The Cougars improve to 4-11 overall and 4-4 in the CACC, while the Warriors drop to 3-12 and 1-6 in conference play.
 
Nyack jumped out to an early lead as they held a 13-9 advantage midway through the opening quarter. Caldwell rallied back with nine straight points as Henderson netted seven points in the run to take an 18-13 lead.
 
The Warriors pulled even early in the second quarter as they tied the score at 18. Caldwell pulled away late in the quarter as sophomore Calimah Singletary (Spring Valley, N.Y.) converted a three-point play near the midway point. Junior Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) drained a pair of triples in the final four minutes as the Cougars held a 38-29 lead at halftime.
 
Caldwell took control of the game in the third quarter as they scored the first 16 points of the second half to extend their lead into double digits. Henderson netted nine points in the run, while senior Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) connected on a three-pointer.
 
Freshman Shadajah Thomas (Plainfield, N.J.) capped the run with a lay-up at the 5:10 mark to give the Cougars a 54-29 lead. Caldwell maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
 
Henderson led the way with 18 points and six rebounds in the win. Lebron shot 5-for-7 from downtown as she finished with 17 points and four assists. Lennon tallied 15 points, five boards, eight assists and three steals. Graduate Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italy) totaled 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Singletary posted 10 points and three boards.
 
The Cougars travel to Jefferson for a CACC match-up on Sunday, January 20 at 2:00 pm.
