CALDWELL, N.J- The Caldwell University men's soccer team fell short to the NYIT Bears 3-2 in double overtime in the Cougars home opener.
The Cougars fall to 0-3-0 on the season, while the Bears improve to 2-0-0.
Caldwell got on the board early in the game as sophomore
Kevin Avila (Newark, N.J.) scored the first goal of the game off an assist from senior
Joaquin Escudero (San Sebastian, Spain) in the seventh minute.
NYIT rallied midway through the opening half as they netted two goals just over a minute apart to pull ahead 2-1.
Caldwell answered late in the half as senior
Kyle Hill (New Milford, N.J.) found the back of the net off an assist from freshman
Stian Rebo (Vestfossen, Norway) to tie the game just before halftime.
The teams battled through a scoreless second half and first overtime. NYIT netted the game-winner midway through the second overtime.
Sophomore
Nils Svere (Lier, Norway) recorded three saves in net.
Caldwell hosts Wilmington University in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener on Saturday, September 8 at 2:30 pm.
