WATERBURY, Conn.- Caldwell University sprint football freshman quarterback
Tajae' Irby (South Plainfield, N.J.) tossed a touchdown and scored on the ground later in the game as the Cougars fell 28-14 to Post University Collegiate Sprint Football League play.

The Cougars fall to 0-3 overall, while the Eagles improve to 1-2.

Caldwell took the early with a late drive in the opening quarter. Sophomore
Zavion Stevens (Bloomfield, N.J.) ripped off a 40-yard run to start the drive and added a short run on the next play. Irby connected with sophomore
Carl Watson (Newark, N.J.) for a 36-yard touchdown to put the Cougars in the lead at 7-0.

The Eagles found the end zone twice in the second quarter to take a 14-7 lead at halftime. Post added to the lead on their first possession of the second half to extend their lead to 21-7.

The Cougars answered on their ensuing possession as Irby guided the Caldwell offense on a 20-play, 82-yard drive that spanned nearly nine minutes. Irby capped the drive with 1-yard scamper into the end zone to cut the score to 21-14 late in the third quarter.

Post added a late touchdown in the fourth quarter and held the Cougars off the board over the final 15 minutes.

Irby tossed for 215 yards in the air on 17-of-29 passing and one touchdown. Stevens totaled 84 yards on the ground on 12 carries, while Watson finished with six receptions for 72 yards and one score.

Freshman
David Vicuna (Bound Brook, N.J.) led the Cougar defense with seven tackles and 1.5 sacks in the game. Freshman
Haleem Woods (Plainfield, N.J.) recorded six tackles, while freshman
Askari Garner (Orange, N.J.) added five tackles. Sophomore
Jerrick Anthony (Bayonne, N.J.) recorded 1.5 sacks for Caldwell.

The Cougars are the bye week next week and return to the field on Saturday, October 13 as they welcome the United States Naval Academy to town for a CSFL clash at 1 pm at James Caldwell High School. Â Â
