CALDWELL, N.J- Caldwell University men's soccer freshman
Stian Rebo (Vestfossen, Norway) netted the game-winning goal in overtime to life the Cougars to a thrilling 2-1 victory in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Homecoming 2018.
The Cougars improve to 2-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the CACC, while the Griffins drop to 3-5-0 and 2-3-0 in conference play.
Caldwell got on the board midway through the first half as freshman
Martin Muller (Bergen, Norway) scored off a goalie save to give the Cougars the early lead.
Chestnut Hill answered four minutes later as they netted the equalizer to even the game at 1-1.
The teams battled through a scoreless second half and the game headed overtime. Chestnut Hill had a scoring opportunity in the third minute of the first overtime but sophomore keeper
Nils Svere (Lier, Norway) preserved the tie with a key save.
Caldwell rallied back as sophomore
Mattia Cella (Zoagli, Italy) and junior
Erlend Aase (Bergen, Norway) assisted on a crossing play to Rebo to propel the Cougars to the victory.
Svere recorded five saves in the win.
The Cougars travel to Bloomfield College on Tuesday, September 25 for a CACC game at 7 pm.
