RUTHERFORD, N.J.- Caldwell University women's volleyball freshman
Elise Smith (O'Fallon, Ill.) led the way with 19 kills to lead the Cougars past Felician University 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars improve to 3-8 overall and 2-0 in the CACC, while the Golden Falcons drop to 1-5 and 0-2 in conference play.
Caldwell and Felician played a competitive first set as the Golden Falcons led 24-21. The Cougars ripped off five straight points to take the opening set 26-24. The second set was also close as the teams were tied at 21. Caldwell netted the four consecutive points to take set two 25-21. Caldwell pulled away in the third set to take the match with a 25-17 win.
Smith tallied a match-high 19 kills along with two aces, two blocks and six digs. Sophomore
Marina Schlaepfer (Aurora Colo.) netted 10 kills and six digs, while junior
Katie Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) chipped in six kills and three blocks.
Senior
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led Caldwell 20 assists, while freshman
Samantha Ashton (Colonia, N.J.) finished with 14 assists and four digs. Freshman
Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) recorded eight digs in the win.
The Cougars travel to Bloomfield College on Friday, September 14 for a CACC match at 6 pm.
