EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches to close out play at the East Stroudsburg University. The Cougars fell to the University of New Haven 3-0 but earned their first victory of the season with a 3-0 win over Queens College.

The Cougars move to 1-3 on the season. The Chargers improve to 5-2, while the Knights fall to 0-4.

In the opening match against New Haven, the Chargers won 27-25, 25-17, and 25-18. Freshman
Elise Smith (O'Fallon, Ill.) led the way with 10 kills, while junior
Katie Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) recorded six blocks.

Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) posted 11 digs, while sophomore
Chloe Kissner (Seabrook, Texas) chipped in three kills and three blocks. Freshman
Samantha Ashton (Colonia, N.J.) totaled 12 assists and seven digs, while senior
Alyssa Ayala (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished with 11 assists and five digs.

The Cougars earned their first win of the season as they defeated Queens College 3-0 (25-14, 25-3 and 25-18). Smith led the way with 12 kills and nine digs, while sophomore
Marina Schlaepfer (Aurora, Colo.) added 11 kills and three aces. Senior
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied seven kills, 15 assists, three aces and seven digs.

Ayala totaled 14 assists and three digs, while Stormer posted six assists and seven digs. Compagno posted three kills and three blocks.

Smith averaged 3.23 kills per set along with five blocks, four aces and posted a .257 hitting percentage to earn all-tournament honors.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday, September 4 as they host Pace University in their home opener at 7 pm at the Newman Center. Â Â
