NEW CASTLE, Del.- The Caldwell University baseball team split came up short in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Wilmington College. The Wildcats won the opener 11-2 and won the nightcap 8-1.

The Cougars fall to 7-35 overall and 7-21 in the CACC, while the Wildcats improve to 27-17 and 22-8 in conference play.

Caldwell took the early lead in the opener as senior
Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled with one out and stole second. Junior
Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) doubled in Bernstein for a 1-0 lead. Wilmington built an 8-1 lead after five innings.

The Cougars added a run in the sixth as Marino drew a leadoff walk. Senior
Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, N.Y.) doubled, while sophomore
Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Marino.

Daniel Gregor (Monroe, N.J.) took the loss as he tossed six innings, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits with five strikeouts.

The Cougars scored in the opening inning as senior
Justin Jeannette (East Hanover, N.J.) and Marino singled with two outs. Goldman doubled in Jeannette for a 1-0 lead. Wilmington took the lead with two runs in their half of the first. The Wildcats pushed ahead with six more runs over the final eight innings.

Jack Anderson (Nyack, N.Y.) took the loss as he tossed five innings, allowing six runs (one earned) on five hits with two strikeouts.
