BENSALEM, Pa.- The Caldwell University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference against Holy Family University. The Cougars won the opener 13-4, while the Tigers took the nightcap 10-1 in five innings.
The Cougars move to 24-16 overall and 18-2 in the CACC, while the Tigers stand at 12-26 and 11-11 in conference play.
Caldwell scored in all seven innings in the opener as senior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) singled in a run in the first for a 1-0 lead. Holy Family answered with a run in the first to tie the game at one.
The Cougars loaded the bases in the second inning as freshman
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) and sophomore
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) drew walks to force in a pair of runs. Caldwell added a run in the third inning as senior
Katelyn Johnson (Denville, N.J.) drove in a run with an infield single.
Freshman
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) extended the Cougar lead to 5-2 in the fourth as she singled home Rini. In the sixth, senior
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, Calif.) and Rini hit back to back doubles to drive in a pair of runs. Caldwell broke the game open in the seventh as they scored four runs. Sophomore
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) doubled in a run, while junior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) added a run scoring single. Freshman
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) added an RBI double, while Ramirez capped the scoring with a single to score Sandoval.
Sophomore
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) allowed four runs on 11 hits, while striking out six in a complete game effort to improve to 13-7.
In the nightcap, Caldwell was limited to five hits in the game. Holy Family built a 10-0 lead over the first four innings. Monasseri accounted for the line Caldwell run in the fifth as she hit a sacrifice fly.
Sophomore
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits to fall to 11-9. Bearden recorded the final two outs in the fourth.
The Cougars host Post University in a CACC doubleheader on Wednesday, April 25 at 2:30 pm.
