CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team extended their win streak to eight games as they swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference against Goldey-Beacom College. The Cougars took the opener 7-1 in five innings and won the nightcap 7-4.
The Cougars improve to 23-13 overall and 17-1 in the CACC, while the Lightning fall to 3-28 and 3-18 in conference play.
Caldwell jumped in front with three runs in the opening inning. Senior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) and freshman
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) doubled in runs for a 2-0 lead. The Cougars added another run on an error.
Sophomore
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) hit a two-out solo homerun in the third inning. Testa followed with a double and scored on a homerun by freshman
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.).
In the fourth, Monasseri and Misiur both singled in runs for an 8-1 lead. Senior
Katelyn Johnson (Denville, N.J.) ended the game in the fifth with a solo homerun.
Sophomore
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) improved to 12-6 as she allowed one unearned run on two hits with five strikeouts.
Caldwell took the lead early in game two as they loaded the bases in the third inning. Rodriguez drew a walk to force in a run, while Misiur singled to score a run. In the fourth, freshman
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) singled with two outs and scored on a double by senior
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, Calif.).
Junior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) drove in a run in the fourth with a single, while the Cougars tacked on three runs on the sixth. Monasseri singled in one run, while Rodriguez drove in a pair of runs with a single.
Sophomore
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) allowed four unearned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts to improve to 11-7.
Prior to the game, the Cougars recognized its three graduating seniors in Johnson, Monasseri and Silva for their outstanding contributions to the program.
The Cougars host Molloy College for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 22 at noon.
