CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University softball freshman 
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) homered and scored four runs as the Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference against Jefferson. Caldwell took the opener 6-4 and completed the sweep with a 9-3 win in the nightcap.
 
The Cougars posted their tenth win in their last 11 games to improve to 19-13 and 13-1 in the CACC, while the Rams fall to 13-17 and 9-9 in conference play.
 
Caldwell took the lead in the third inning as Ramirez led off with a double. Senior 
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) singled with two outs to score Ramirez for a 1-0 lead.
 
The Cougars added to their lead in the fifth as Ramirez led off the inning with a homerun down the left field line. Senior 
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, Calif.) followed with a single, while sophomore 
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was hit by a pitch. Silva advanced to third on a flyout, while Rini stole second. Sophomore 
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) doubled home two runs for the Cougars. Junior 
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) added a run scoring single to extend the lead to 5-0.
 
The Rams pushed across two runs in the sixth but Caldwell added a run in their half of the inning. Ramirez was hit by a pitch to start the inning. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Monasseri single.
 
Jefferson plated two runs in the top of the seventh but sophomore 
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) came on in relief to close the door for the save.
 
Sophomore 
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, while striking out three to improve to 10-6. Johnston retired the lone batter she faced to earn her third save of the season.
 
In the nightcap, Caldwell scored eight runs in the first three innings to control of the game. Silva reached on an error to start the first inning. Monasseri singled to score Silva and scored later in the inning on a Misiur single.
 
Freshman 
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) hit a solo homerun in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. Jefferson sliced the score to 3-2 with two runs in the third inning.
 
The Cougars broke the game open in the third as Monasseri led off with a single. Misiur singled to put runners at first and third. Testa reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases with one out. Sandoval singled to score one run, while senior 
Katelyn Johnson (Denville, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice to add a second run. Ramirez singled in Sandoval, while Silva drove in two runs for an 8-2 lead. 
Jefferson added a run in the sixth inning but Johnston turned back the Rams to earn the win. Johnston (9-7) tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.
The Cougars host Concordia College for a CACC clash on Thursday, April 19 at 3:00 pm.
