CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University baseball senior Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, N.Y.) drove in a pair of runs as the Cougars came up short to NYIT 9-6 in a non-conference game.
 
The Cougars fall to 4-28, while the Bears improve to 7-19-1.
 
NYIT took the early lead with a run in the first inning and three in the second.
 
Caldwell battled back in the third inning as senior Paul Marinello (Freehold, N.J.) singled and senior Daniel Gregor (Monroe, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice. Senior Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled in a run, while sophomore Jack Zosulis (East Hanover, N.J.) reached on an infield single to load the bases. Goldman ripped a double to drive in two runs and cut the score to 4-3. Junior Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score at four.
 
The Bears retook the lead with four runs in the top of the fourth. Caldwell added a pair of runs in the fifth as Bernstein led off with a walk. Goldman singled and the runners pulled off a double steal to move into scoring position. Marino hit a sacrifice fly to score Bernstein, while junior Anthony Parente (Jackson, N.J.) singled to score Goldman to slice the score to 8-6.
 
Grad Zach Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.) took the loss in relief, as he allowed four runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings pitched.
 
The Cougars travel to Post University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Friday, April 20 at noon.
