PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Caldwell University baseball senior
Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y) drove in three runs as the Cougars lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader to Jefferson. The Rams took the opener 26-10 and won the nightcap 23-5.
The Cougars fall to 2-27 overall and 2-17 in the CACC, while Rams improve to 10-21 and 7-10 in conference play.
In the opener, Caldwell got three runs in the opening inning as Bernstein doubled in a run. Senior
Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, N.Y.) reached on an error that allowed Bernstein to score. Freshman
Anthony Parente (Jackson, N.J.) singled in Goldman in the inning. The Cougars added a run in the fourth inning as senior
Rob DeSanti (Barnegat, N.J.) singled to drive in a run.
The Cougars rallied with five runs in the seventh as Bernstein doubled in a run. Sophomore
Dustin Walicky (Belleville, N.J.) and sophomore
Chris Herrera (Passaic, N.J.) added run scoring singles in the inning. Walicky scored later in the inning on an error, while senior
William Levier (Monroe Township, N.J.) singled in Herrera.
Senior
Zach Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.) got the start, as he pitched four innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits to fall to 0-5.
In the nightcap, the Cougars took the early lead as senior
Daniel Gregor (Monroe, N.J.) tripled with one out and scored on a wild pitch in the third inning. In the fifth, junior
Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) blasted a solo homerun.
Caldwell added three runs in the sixth inning as Parente led off the inning with a solo homerun. Walicky and Bernstein added run scoring singles in the inning for Caldwell.
Sophomore
Jack Anderson (Nyack, N.Y.) took the loss, as he tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on six hits with four strikeouts.
The Cougars host Concordia College in a CACC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 17 at 3 pm.
