Kassaleh Turns in Record Performance as Women’s Lacrosse Downs Post

WEST CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's lacrosse sophomore Arden Kassaleh (Pompton Plains, N.J.) set the program record with nine points in the Cougars 23-11 victory over Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest. The 23-goals breaks the previous school record of 22 set earlier this season.
 
The Cougars improve to 3-6 on the season and 3-2 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 2-12 and 1-5 in conference play.
 
Despite training 1-0 early in the game, Kassaleh, freshman Samantha Murphy (Pompton Plains, N.J.) and junior Rachel Lucia (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) netted goals to pull ahead 3-2 at the 20:13 mark. Post tied the score at three but Caldwell answered with eight straight goals.
 
Kassaleh netted three goals, while Murphy and senior Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, N.Y.) added two goals as the Cougars extended their lead to 11-3 late in the half. The Eagles tallied a pair of goals to slice the score to 11-5.
 
Schenck scored twice down the stretch, while Kassaleh added a goal to put Caldwell in the lead at 14-6 at halftime.
 
Caldwell pushed their lead into double digits as junior Maryellen McCarthy (Levittown, N.Y.), Murphy and Kassaleh netted goals early in the second half. Lucia tallied a pair of goals as the Cougars took a 19-8 lead with 23:09 left in the game.
 
Sophomore Amber Raines (Millville, N.J.), Lucia, Kassaleh and Murphy netted goals for Caldwell over the final 18 minutes as the Cougars earned their third conference win of the season.
 
Kassaleh broke her previous school game record with nine points. She totaled seven goals and two assists and seven draw controls. Murphy posted seven points on five goals and two assists, while leading the team with a team-high 10 draw controls. Lucia tallied six points on five goals and one assist along with four draw controls, seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Schenck chipped in five points on four goals and one assist, while McCarthy finished with one goal and four assists.
 
Junior goalie Nancy Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) earned the win as she posted five saves.
 
The Cougars travel to Dominican College for a CACC contest on Thursday, April 12 at 4 pm.
