ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Caldwell University women's lacrosse sophomore
Arden Kassaleh (Pompton Plains, N.J.) and freshman
Samantha Murphy (Pompton Plains, N.J.) each netted five points as the Cougars fell to Dominican College 21-13 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 3-7 on the season and 3-3 in the CACC, while the Chargers improve to 5-6 and 4-1 in conference play.
Kassaleh and senior
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, N.Y.) scored early goals for the Cougars but Dominican built a 9-2 lead midway through the opening half.
Caldwell battled back as junior
Maryellen McCarthy (Levittown, N.Y.) scored off a Kassaleh assist. Dominican answered with a goal but the Cougars rallied with back-to-back scores. Schenck and Kassaleh each netted goals to cut their deficit to 10-5.
The teams traded goals in the final seven minutes as Murphy scored for Caldwell. Dominican held a 12-6 lead at halftime.
Murphy added a goal for the Cougars early in the second half nut Dominican pushed their lead to 17-7 near the midway point.
Caldwell rallied back as they scored five of the game's next six goals. Schenck netted a goal and an assist, while junior
Jessica Collum (Wayne, N.J.) and Kassaleh each scored. Murphy netted a pair of goals as her second goal closed the gap to 18-12. Kassaleh netted a late goal for Caldwell but the Cougars came up short.
Kassaleh totaled four goals and one assist, while Murphy tallied four goals, one assist, three caused turnovers, two draw controls and four ground balls. Schenck posted three goals and one assist along with five draw controls.
Junior goalie
Nancy Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) posted nine saves in the game.
The Cougars host Jefferson on Saturday, April 14 at 10 am in a CACC contest at Essex Valley Field.
