Baseball Comes Up Short to #23 New Haven, Post on Florida Trip

LANTANA, Fla.- The Caldwell University baseball team dropped a pair of games on day four of their Florida road trip. The Cougars lost to #23 University of New Haven 3-2 and lost to Post University 14-7.
 
The Cougars battled the nationally ranked Chargers in their opening game of the day. Senior Justin Picinic (River Vale, N.J.) tossed seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and struck out five.
 
The game was scoreless through six innings before Caldwell broke through in the top of the seventh. Junior Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Senior Paul Marinello (Freehold, N.J.) singled to score Marino to put the Cougars up 1-0.
 
New Haven rallied back in the eighth inning as they scored a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Dustin Walicky (Belleville, N.J.) blasted a solo homerun to tie the score. The Chargers got the game-winning run in their half of the ninth.
 
In the second game of the day, sophomore Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while junior Quintin Quartararo (Lakewood, N.J.) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Senior Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, N.Y.) turned in a 2-for-5 game with a double and an RBI. Senior Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
 
The Cougars continue their sprint break trip as they face Molloy College on Wednesday, March 14 at noon at Barry University.
