LANTANA, Fla.- The Caldwell University baseball team came up short to Stonehill College 4-3 on day two of their Florida trip.
 
The Cougars fall to 0-2, while the Skyhawks improve to 7-6.
 
Stonehill took the early lead with a run in the first inning. Caldwell battled back in the second as sophomore Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on an error. Senior Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tied the game at 1-1 with a single to score Zosulis.
 
The Skyhawks retook the lead with a run in the third inning to push ahead 2-1. Caldwell pulled even in the sixth as junior Quintin Quartararo (Lakewood, N.J.) drew a leadoff walk. He moved to second on a groundout and scored on a run scoring single by senior Rob DeSanti (Barneget, N.J.)
 
Stonehill added a run in the eighth to go back in front 3-2. The Cougars rallied back in the top half of the ninth inning as graduate Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) led off with a double. Zosulis singled to move Bernstein to third. Zosulis moved to second on a fielder's choice and scored on a single by senior Daniel Gregor (Monroe, N.J.) to tie the game at three.
 
The Skyhawks recorded a pair of doubles in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.
 
Sophomore Michael Hess (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) tossed seven solid innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and registered seven strikeouts. Sophomore Raymond Ramos (Bloomfield, N.J.) took the loss as he tossed 1+ innings, allowing one run on one hit. Freshman Thomas Darling (Succasunna, N.J.) recorded one out in the ninth, while junior Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, N.J.) faced one batter in the final inning
 
The Cougars are back in action on Monday, March 12 as they take on American International College and Southern Connecticut St. University on the Lynn University campus.
