Lutterman Nets 13 Points as Men’s Basketball Downs Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Caldwell University men's basketball sophomore Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) netted 13 points as the Cougars defeated Holy Family University 69-61 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Cougars win their third in a row to improve to 11-11 overall and 8-5 in the CACC, while the Tigers fall to 2-19 and 2-12 on conference play.
 
The teams traded leads early in the game but Holy Family pull ahead 24-19 near the midway point of the opening half. The Cougars rallied with a 17-3 run to pull ahead by nine points. Sophomore Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) scored four points, while freshman Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) tied the score at 27.
 
Sophomore Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) and junior Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) each drained triples in the run. Harrison connected on a free throw at the 4:40 mark to put the Cougars in front 36-27. Holy Family hit three trifectas to even the score at 36. Lutterman connected on a lay-up to give Caldwell a 38-36 lead at halftime.
 
The Tigers closed the gap to one point at 44-43 early in the second half. Caldwell answered with a 17-3 run to push their lead into double digits. Ogoemesim drained a triple, while Covington added four points. Senior Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) drained a triple as he totaled seven points in the run to put Caldwell in the lead at 61-46 with 10:31 left in the game.
 
Holy Family got as close as four points at 65-61 with 3:31 left in the game. Lutterman hit a pair at the free throw line and added a late dunk to help the Cougars secure the victory.
 
Lutterman led the way with 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals for the Cougars. Harrison tallied nine points, four boards, four assists and three steals. Dorn totaled nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Covington added nine points, while Ogoemesim finished with seven points and three rebounds.
 
The Cougars return to the Newman Center as they host Dominican College on Wednesday, February 7 in a CACC contest at 7:30 pm.
