WATERBURY, Conn.- Caldwell University men's basketball senior
Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) dropped in a game-high 25 points as the Cougars sailed past Post University 83-51 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars post their fourth consecutive win as they improve to 15-12 overall and 12-6 in the CACC. The Eagles fall to 7-20 and 6-12 in conference play.
Caldwell raced out to a 21-9 lead over the first seven minutes of the game. Sophomores
Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) and
AJ Kittles (Glassboro, N.J.) each netted three-pointers in the run. Dorn totaled nine points and drained a triple at the 12:55 mark to give the Cougars a 12-point advantage.
Post closed the gap to five points at 22-17 near the midway point of the opening half. Caldwell pushed ahead by as much as 11 points at 41-30 late in the half. The Eagles trimmed the score down to nine points as the Cougars held a 43-34 lead at halftime.
Caldwell extended their lead to 11 points at 49-38 early in the second half. The Eagles battled back to cut the score down to 49-46 with 14:50 left in the game.
The Cougars pulled away with a 20-3 run to push their lead into double figures. Dorn connected on a pair of three-pointers as he totaled 10 points. Junior
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) added a triple as he posted seven points in the run. Kittles capped the run with a trifecta at the 6:45 mark to put Caldwell in front 69-49. The Cougars held a double-digit lead to the final buzzer.
Dorn led the way with a game-high 25 points along with five rebounds and five assists. Sophomore
Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) totaled 11 points and eight boards, while freshman
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) added 11 points and three rebounds. Kittles finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Jennings chipped in nine points and four boards. Harrison tallied seven points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sophomore
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) posted five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Caldwell wraps up the regular season against Bloomfield College on Saturday, February 24 in a CACC match-up at 3 pm. The Cougars will recognize its lone senior on Saturday as part of senior day.
