PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Caldwell University men's basketball sophomore
Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) netted 15 points as the Cougars downed Chestnut Hill College 72-62 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars post their fourth win in their last five games to improve to 12-12 overall and 9-6 in the CACC. The Griffins drop to 4-18 and 3-12 in conference play.
Caldwell built a four-point lead over the first five minutes of the game. Sophomore
Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) drained a triple, while sophomore
Eric Johnson-Alford (Clifton, N.J.) added a lay-up and a free throw. Junior
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) added a free throw at the 15:25 mark to put the Caldwell ahead 9-5.
Chestnut Hill rallied to take a 14-11 lead near the midway point of the half. The Cougars battled back with a 13-3 run to pull ahead by seven points. Lutterman converted a three-point play and added a lay-up in the run. Junior
Thomas Elliott-Smith (Plymouth, England) capped the run with a lay-up at the 5:07 mark to put Caldwell in front 24-17.
The Cougars held off the Griffins the rest of the half as sophomore
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) and Jennings each drained three-pointers to keep Caldwell in the lead at 30-24 at halftime.
Caldwell extended their lead to 54-42 with 8:55 remaining in the game. Chestnut Hill closed the gap to 59-54 with just under five minutes to play. Lutterman led the way with 15 points, while Johnson-Alford posted 13 points and four boards. Covington tallied 11 points, four rebounds and two steals.
