Men’s Basketball Surges Past Nyack With Huge Second Half Rally

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball junior Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) led the way with 18 points as the Cougars surged past Nyack College 79-59 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Cougars improve to 13-12 overall and 10-6 in the CACC, while Warriors fall to 6-18 and 6-11 in conference play.
 
Nyack got off to a fast start as they took a 19-8 lead at the 12:14 mark of the opening half. Caldwell rallied back with a 15-1 run over the next six minutes to take a three-point lead. Sophomore AJ Kittles (Glassboro, N.J.) converted a three-point play, while sophomore Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) drained a pair from downtown.
 
Harrison capped the run with a lay-up at the 5:52 mark to put Caldwell in the lead at 23-20. The Warriors connected on three triples down the stretch to take a 30-28 into halftime.
 
Nyack scored on their opening possession of the second half but the Cougars took control of the game with a tremendous run. Caldwell scored the next 26 points and ultimately posted a 34-3 run to take a double-digit lead late into the game. Sophomore Eric Johnson-Alford (Clifton, N.J.) posted 12 points in the run, while sophomore Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) added six points. Harrison posted eight points as he capped the run at the 8:36 mark to give Caldwell a 62-35 lead. The Cougars held a double-digit lead to the final buzzer.
 
Harrison led the Cougars with 18 points, six boards and three assists. Covington chipped in 14 points, four boards and two steals. Johnson-Alford totaled 14 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) tallied eight points, four boards, three assists and two steals. Lutterman contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
 
The Cougars host Jefferson University on Saturday, February 17 at 3 pm at the Newman Center. It will feature "Super Saturday" with Caldwell Athletics alumni in attendance. Saturday's game will also be the NCAA Division II Showcase game and will be streaming live on ESPN3 and the ESPN Watch app.
