CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior
Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) totaled 12 points as the Cougars furious fourth quarter comeback fell short 64-57 to Adelphi University in their home opener.
The Cougars fall to 0-3, while the Panthers improve to 3-3.
Adelphi took an early 10-5 lead midway through the opening quarter. Caldwell used a 10-2 run to close out the opening quarter to take a three-point lead. Lebron and freshman
Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) each netted triples in the run for a 15-12 first quarter lead.
The Panthers built a double-digit second quarter lead at 34-21. Senior
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) connected on a late jumper as the Cougars trailed 34-25 at the break. Adelphi held a double-digit lead for most of the third quarter and into the final quarter before the Cougars rallied back.
Lebron drained a pair of triples in the fourth quarter to fuel the comeback. Graduate
Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italy) added a three-pointer with 1:28 left in the game to cut the score to 60-53. Freshman
Ana Gonzalez Martin (Toledo, Spain) scored in the paint with under 30 seconds to play to trim the score to 60-57. Adelphi connected on four free throws in the final 23 seconds to hold off the Cougars.
Lebron shot 4-for-7 from downtown as she finished with 12 points, two assists and three steals. Senior
Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass.) chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds, while Lennon totaled 10 points, three boards and five assists.
The Cougars host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday, November 28 at 5:30 pm at the Newman Center.
