BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Graduate student
Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italia) scored 12 points and senior
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) and junior
Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) added 11 each as Caldwell women's basketball dropped at 73-55 exhibition contest at Division I Binghamton University on Sunday at Dr. Bai Lee Court.
The Cougars hung in for most of the first half, tying the game at 23 on a layup by freshman
Paula Dits (Alicante, España) early in the second quarter and still trailing by just six at 29-23 midway through the period. But the Cougars would score just one more bucket the rest of the half, taking a 39-25 deficit into the intermission.Â
Five straight points to start the third quarter, including a three pointer and two free throws by Lennon pulled the Cougars to within 39-30, but another extended Bearcats run put the game out of reach.
Smaldone also led the Cougars with seven rebounds and six assists, while Dits added eight points, four rebounds and two assists. Kai Moon's 20 points paced the Bearcats, who outrebounded Caldwell by a 43-30 count.
The game marked a reunion of sorts for Caldwell head coach
Torey Jones, who served as assistant coach at Binghamton from 2014-17.
The Cougars are next in action on Tuesday when they visit LIU Post in Brookville, N.Y., in a makeup of Thursday's weather-postponed contest.
