Drogsler Nets 20 Points in Women’s Basketball Loss to Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Caldwell University women's basketball senior Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) totaled 20 points as the Cougars came up short 72-67 to Dominican College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. 
 
The Cougars fall to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the CACC, while the Chargers improve to 5-8 and 4-1 in conference play.
 
Dominican pulled ahead early in the game with an 11-5 advantage midway through the opening quarter. The Cougars rallied back with a 12-4 run that stretched into the second quarter to take a two-point lead.
 
Drogsler scored four points in the run, while senior Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) put the Cougars ahead 17-15 with 8:49 left in the second quarter. The Chargers scored six straight points to retake a four-point lead late in the first half.
 
The Cougars closed the half on a 12-5 run as they held a three-point lead at halftime. Junior Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass.) drained a pair of triples to put Caldwell back in the lead. Drogsler connected on a pair of free throws late in the quarter to give the Cougars a 29-26 at the break.
 
Caldwell held the lead most of the second half as they pulled ahead by eight points at 56-48 early in the fourth quarter. The Cougars maintained their lead late into the half as senior Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) drained a triple at the 5:09 mark of the final quarter to hold a 61-54 lead.
 
The Chargers rallied back over the final five minutes as the Cougars were limited to six points down the stretch. Dominican took the lead for good at the 2:50 mark and held off Caldwell over the final two minutes.
 
Drogsler hit all eight free throws as she finished with 20 points and six rebounds. Sanders tallied 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Siscamanis chipped in 12 points and six boards, while junior Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) posted nine points and three assists. Senior Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) totaled seven rebounds, while sophomore Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) recorded four steals.
 
The Cougars return to the court on Wednesday, January 10 for a CACC contest against Wilmington University at 5:30 pm at the Newman Center.
