PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Caldwell University women's basketball senior
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) posted 17 points as the Cougars came up short to #13 USciences 66-56 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 17-4 on the season and 10-2 in the CACC, while the Devils improve to 19-2 and 11-1 in conference play.
Caldwell got off to a quick start as they scored the first 11 points of the game. Senior
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) drained a triple to put the Cougars on the board, while sophomore
Tina Lebron (Manalapan. N.J.) capped the run at the 4:35 mark.
The Devils chipped away as they pulled even late in the second quarter at 26. O'Driscoll and senior
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) added lay-ups, while junior
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) drained a trifecta to put the Cougars back in the lead at 33-26. USciences connected on a late triple as Caldwell led 33-29 at halftime.
Junior
Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass.) drained a three-pointer early in the second half, while senior
Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) added a lay-up to help keep the Cougars in front. O'Driscoll connected on four free throws with the final two coming at the 3:59 mark of the third quarter to help Caldwell take a 42-34 lead.
The Devils rallied as they took a 45-44 lead early in the fourth quarter. The teams traded leads over the next three minutes as Lebron's triple at the 5:42 mark gave Caldwell a 53-50 lead. USciences scored nine straight points as they pushed ahead 59-53 with 2:29 left in the game. The Devils hit five free throws in the final minute to hold off the Cougars.
O'Driscoll led the way with 17 points along with four rebounds. Lebron shot 3-for-6 from downtown to finish with 11 points. Kelty totaled six points, five boards and two steals, while Sanders chipped in four points and eight rebounds. Drogsler added seven points, six rebounds and two steals, while Lennon posted six points and four assists.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, February 3 as they travel to Holy Family University for a CACC clash at 1 pm.
