BRONXVILLE, N.Y.- Caldwell University men's basketball senior
Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) netted 16 points as the Cougars came up short to Concordia College 74-71 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars fall to 8-10 overall and 5-4 in the CACC, while the Clippers improve to 7-10 and 2-7 in conference play.
Concordia drained nine first-half three-pointers as they built a 10-point lead late in the opening half. Sophomore
Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) shot 3-for-4 from downtown to lead the Cougars with nine points in the half. Dorn added seven points but Caldwell trailed 43-31 at halftime.
The Cougars slowly chipped away the entire second half as they took a three-point lead in the final minute. Jennings drained a triple at the 2:54 mark to cut the score down to two points at 68-66. Dorn drained a pair of free throws with 1:56 left in the game to tie the score at 68.
The Cougars pulled ahead by three points following a Dorn triple at the 1:18 mark. The Clippers tied the game with a three-pointer with 21 seconds left in the game. In the final seconds, Concordia forced a turnover and lifted a shot just before the buzzer to take the game.
Dorn led the way with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Jennings totaled 14 points and five boards, while sophomore
Eric Johnson-Alford (Clifton, N.J.) chipped in 10 points and six rebounds. Sophomore
Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) added nine points and five rebounds, while sophomore
Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) posted nine points, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
The Cougars host Goldey-Beacom College on Sunday, January 21 in a CACC contest at 1 pm.
