CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's tennis team opened their 2017 season with a 5-4 win over East Stroudsburg University in non-conference play.
 
The Cougars open the season at 1-0, while the Warriors fall to 0-1.
 
Caldwell won three singles matches as senior Valeria Otarola (Lima, Peru) cruised at the #2 spot 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Janis Jimenez (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) took the win at #3 singles 6-3, 6-2, while senior Shannon Donaldson (Bonita Springs, Fla.) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at #5 singles.
 
In doubles play, senior Rebecca Ryan (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and Otarola won 8-4 at #1 doubles. Jimenez and Donaldson posted an 8-2 win at #2 doubles as Caldwell took the win in their season opener.
 
The Cougars host Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Monday, September 11 at 3:30 pm.
