Dailey Turns in Record Performance as Sprint Football Earns Program’s First Victory

WATERBURY, Conn.- Caldwell University sprint football freshman Quazier Dailey (Prospect Park, N.J.) turned in a record setting performance to help lead the Cougars to its first program victory with a 28-19 triumph over Post University in Collegiate Sprint Football League action.
 
Caldwell improves to 1-2 overall, while the Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season.
 
In a season of many firsts, the Cougars added four first-time efforts in the game. Caldwell posted their first win in the program history with the win over Post. The game also featured the program's first passing touchdown as well as the first 100-yard rushing performance by one player. The defense also recorded their first interception of the season.
 
Post took an early 7-0 lead with a first quarter touchdown. Caldwell rallied before halftime as they found the end zone twice in the second quarter.
 
The Cougars took to the air for their first touchdown of the game as freshman Vincent Crisafi (Clark, N.J.) found freshman running back Nysir Smith (Newark, N.J.) for an 11-yard connection. The Crisafi-to-Smith score marked the program's first passing touchdown.
 
Dailey put Caldwell in the lead midway through the second quarter. He capped an 8-play, 38-yard drive with a four-yard rushing touchdown to give the Cougars a 14-7 lead with 9:26 left in the quarter.
 
The Caldwell defense stepped up late in the second quarter as they made a key defensive stand just before halftime. The Post offense drove down to the Caldwell 12-yard line with just over a minute to play. Freshman Joshua Santana (Cherry Hill, N.J.) intercepted an Eagle pass in the end zone, ending the Post drive and giving Caldwell its first interception in program history.
 
The Eagles rallied in the third quarter as they found the end zone twice. Post failed on both point after attempts as they led 19-14 early in the third quarter.
 
Caldwell retook the lead as Dailey broke free for a 33-yard rushing score to put the Cougars in front 20-19. The Cougars added some insurance points late in the fourth quarter. Crisafi tossed his second touchdown of the game as he found freshman Carl Watson (Newark, N.J.) for a 23-yard scoring strike. Freshman Zavion Stevens (Bloomfield, N.J.) rushed in the two-point conversion as the Cougars pulled ahead 28-19.
 
Crisafi completed 3-of-7 passes for 38 yards and two scores. Dailey turned in a huge day on the ground with 17 carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Stevens added 86 yards on the ground on 18 carries. Smith posted 59 yards of total offense with 33 rushing yards, 11 receiving yards and 15 punt return yards. Watson finished with two receptions for 27 yards on a touchdown.
 
On defense, freshman Quintin Quartararo (Lakewood, N.J.) led the Cougars with 10 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. Freshman Royce Francisco (Passaic, N.J.) added nine tackles, while freshman Colin Williams (East Orange, N.J.) posted eight tackles, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble.
 
The Cougars will enter the team's bye week next weekend and will be back in action on Saturday, October 14 as they host Mansfield University at 1 pm at Bonnel Field on the campus of James Caldwell High School.
