NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- Caldwell University men's soccer senior
Patrick Grey (Auckland, New Zealand) netted the game-winning goal in the 67th minute the lift the Cougars past Bentley University 2-1 on the final day of the Merrimack College Tournament.
Caldwell evens their record at 1-1 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 0-2.
Despite the first half edge in shots (9-4), Caldwell trailed at halftime 1-0. Bentley struck in the 14th minute of play to take the early lead, which they held throughout the opening half.
The Cougars erased their halftime deficit three minutes into the second half. Junior
Joaquin Escudero (San Sebastian, Spain) netted the equalizer off a Grey assist to help Caldwell pull even at 1-1 in the 49th minute.
Caldwell took the lead in the 67th minute as senior
Sam Odell (Walton-On-Thames, England) booted a corner kick to Grey, who headed the ball into the net for the eventual game-winner.
The Cougars defense held strong over the final 23 minutes as freshman
Nils Svere (Lier, Norway) posted a two saves down the stretch. Svere finished with three saves as he earned his first collegiate win in net.
Caldwell returns to the pitch on Thursday, September 7 as they travel to East Stroudsburg University for a 7 pm match.
