WALTHAM, Mass.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team wrapped up their successful weekend with two wins at the Bentley University Tournament. Senior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) was named the tournament MVP after averaging 3.85 kills per set, while senior
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) was named to the all-tournament team.
The Cougars defeated Southern New Hampshire University 3-0 and downed host Bentley 3-1. Caldwell ends the weekend at 4-0, while the Penmen fall to 1-2 and the Falcons fall to 3-1.
In their first match of the day, Caldwell swept past Southern New Hampshire in three sets, 25-20, 25-16 and 26-24. Janssen led the way with 14 kills, six digs and four blocks. Auyong chipped in eight kills and 12 digs, while sophomore
Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) added four kills and eight total blocks. Freshman
Marina Schlaepfer (Aurora, Colo.) posted five kills and six digs, while freshman
Chloe Kissner (Seabrook, Texas) finished with five kills and seven digs. Junior
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied 32 assists, seven digs and three blocks, while senior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) totaled 24 digs.
The Cougars closed out the tournament with a four set win over host Bentley. Caldwell took the opening set 25-19 but fell 25-14 in the second set. The Cougars took the match with 25-19 wins in the third and fourth set.
Janssen tallied a match-high 18 kills along with six blocks and six digs. Schlaepfer chipped in 10 kills and eight digs, while Compagno netted six kills and six blocks. Hoffman totaled 36 assists and two aces, while Mitchell finished with 32 digs.
The Cougars open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday, September 13 as they host Felician University at 7 pm at the Newman Center.
