KUTZTOWN, Pa.- The Caldwell University volleyball team opened the Kutztown University Tournament with a 3-1 loss to West Chester University.
The Cougars drop their first match of the season as they fall to 5-1. The Rams improve to 9-0 in 2017.
The Rams took the opening set 25-19 but the Cougars evened the match with a 25-23 win in set two. West Chester closed out the match with a 25-13 win in set three and won set four 25-20.
Senior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) led the Cougars with 14 kills along with three total blocks. Sophomore
Avery Stanechewski (Tampa, Fla.) tallied five kills and five blocks, while freshman
Marina Schlaepfer (Aurora, Colo.) chipped in four kills, two aces, nine digs, and two blocks.
Junior
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished with 17 assists, while senior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) totaled 22 digs.
The Cougars wrap up play at the Kutztown Tournament on Saturday, September 16 with a pair of matches. Caldwell faces Shepherd University at 1:30 pm and host Kutztown at 5:30 pm.
