WALTHAM, Mass.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team opened their 2017 season with a pair of victories as they defeated Mercy College and Wilmington University 3-0 on day one of the Bentley University Tournament. Caldwell took their opening match against the Mavericks in three sets, winning 25-18, 25-15 and 25-15 and wrapped up their day with a 25-20, 25-23, 25-15 win over the Wildcats.
In the Cougars opening win against Mercy, senior
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the way with 12 kills along with nine digs. Senior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) chipped in nine kills, five digs and two blocks, while senior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) netted a team-high 15 digs. Junior
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied a match-high 27 assists along with three aces.
Auyong led the Cougars in their win over Wilmington with 11 kills and 14 digs. Janssen posted nine kills, while sophomore
Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) finished with nine kills. Hoffman tallied 33 assists, six aces and six digs, while Mitchell totaled 11 digs. Freshman
Marina Schlaepfer (Aurora, Colo.) chipped in seven kills and four digs.
The Cougars wrap up play at the Bentley Tournament on Saturday, September 2. Caldwell takes on Southern New Hampshire University at 10 am and face host Bentley at 3 pm.
