Baseball Splits Doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del.- Caldwell University baseball junior Justin Jeannette (East Hanover, N.J.) went 5-for-6 with three RBI as the Cougars split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College. The Lightning took the opener 6-5, while the Cougars won the nightcap 4-2 in eight innings.
 
Caldwell moves to 6-13 overall and 3-7 in the CACC, while the Lightning stand at 2-20 and 2-10 in conference play.
 
The Cougars got on the board in the opening inning of game one as they loaded the bases with two outs. Junior Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and freshman Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) singled, while senior Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.). Jeannette singled home Goldman and Zosulis for a 2-0 lead.
 
The Lightning scored a run in the third but Caldwell rallied with a run in the seventh. Senior Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) drew a walk and scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Jeannette. In the ninth, Zosulis and Jeannette singled to put runners at first and second Sophomore Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) singled in two runs for a 5-1 lead. Goldey-Beacom rallied back with five runs in the ninth to win the opener 6-5.
 
In the nightcap, Goldey-Beacom took the early lead with a run in the second inning. Junior Daniel Gregor (Monroe, N.J.) drew a leadoff walk in the third and eventually scored on an infield single by Zosulis. The Lightning answered with a run in the third to retake the lead at 2-1.
 
Caldwell pulled even in the fourth as the Cougars loaded the bases on three walks. Rivera drew the fourth walk of the inning to force in a run and tie the score at 2-2. The score remained tied as the game went extra innings.
 
In the eighth, junior Paul Marinello (Freehold, N.J.) reached base on an error to start the inning. Marinello moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Rivera single. Jeannette added an insurance run as he singled to Rivera.
 
Senior Zach Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.) tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out three. Sophomore Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, N.J.) got the win in relief as he tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings and registered four strikeouts
 
The Cougars travel to Nyack College on Wednesday, April 5 for a CACC doubleheader at 1 pm.
