NORRISTOWN, Pa.- The Caldwell University baseball team picked up a split against Chestnut Hill College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader. The Griffins took the opener 10-5, while the Cougars rallied in the seventh inning of game two to take the nightcap 8-3.

The Cougars move to 12-21 overall and 6-12 in the CACC, while the Griffins finish the day at 18-13-1 and 12-6 in conference play.

In the opener, the teams traded runs in the second and third. Chestnut Hill took the lead with a run in the second inning. Caldwell rallied in the third as junior
Daniel Gregor (Monroe, N.J.) singled with one out and stole second. Junior
Paul Marinello (Freehold, N.J.) singles in Gregor to tie the game at 1-1. Chestnut Hill retook the lead with a run in the third inning.

The Griffins added to their lead with four runs in the fifth and added one in the sixth and one in the seventh. Caldwell loaded the bases in the seventh as Marinello and senior
Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled, while freshman
Chris Herrera (Passaic, N.J.) reached base on an error. Junior
William Levier (Monroe Township, N.J.) drove in two runs with a single, while sophomore
Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added an RBI single later in the inning.

On the mound, senior
Chris Gehrsitz (Jackson, N.J.) took the loss to fall to 2-3 on the season. He pitched four innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits. Freshman
Raymond Ramos (Bloomfield, N.J.) pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing two unearned runs on two hits. Freshman
Michael Hess (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) tossed 2 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Freshman
Nick Cerbone (Bayonne, N.J.) allowed one hit in 2/3 of an inning, while sophomore
Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, N.J.) retired the only batter he faced.

In the nightcap, the Cougars took the early lead as they loaded the bases with no out in the second inning. Junior

Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) and Levier all singled to start the inning. DeSanti crossed the plate on a double play for the 1-0 Caldwell lead. In the third, junior
Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, N.Y.) reached base on an error, moved to second on a wild pitch and reached third on a balk. Bernstein put the Cougars up 2-0 with an RBI groundout.

Chestnut Hill rallied back in the third as they scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

Caldwell answered in their last at-bat in the seventh as they scored six runs. DeSanti led off the inning with a single. Rivera doubled to put runners at second and third. Levier drove in a run with a single to tie the game at 3-3. Rivera scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Caldwell wasn't finished as Marinello was hit by a pitch and Goldman reached on an infield single to load the bases with one out. Bernstein and Marino each had two runs singles as Caldwell pushed ahead 8-3.

Freshman
Jack Anderson (Nyack, N.Y.) got the start as he went 2 1/3 innings, allowing two run (one earned) on one hits. Frascati (3-0) earned the win in relief as he tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits and struck out two. Â
