WEST CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's lacrosse senior
Amanda Timmes (Pine Beach, N.J.) was recognized prior to the Cougars final home game of the regular season against St. Thomas Aquinas College. Caldwell came up short in a 17-9 loss to the Spartans.
The Cougars fall to 7-7 overall, while the Spartans improve to 4-9 on the season.
Caldwell got off to a quick start as they netted the first two goals of the game. Freshman
Arden Kassaleh (Pompton Plains, N.J.) and junior
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, N.Y.) each tallied goals to put the Cougars up 2-0. The Spartans rallied with three goals to pull ahead 3-2 with 14:14 left in the opening half.
The Cougars retook the lead with a pair of goals as sophomore
Rachel Lucia (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) tied the score at 3-3 at the 11:06 mark. Schenck netted her second of the game with 10:22 left in the half as Caldwell took a 4-3 lead. St. Thomas Aquinas closed the half with four goals as the Spartans led 7-4 at halftime.
Kassaleh netted her second goal of the game early in the second half to cut the score to 7-5. St. Thomas Aquinas added three goals to extend their lead to 10-5. Sophomore
Jessica Collum (Wayne, N.J.) scored at the 21:33 mark to slice the score to 10-6.
The Spartans added to their lead to go ahead 12-6 with 20 minutes left in the game. Kassaleh netted a pair to keep the Cougars in the game at 12-8. St. Thomas Aquinas answered with four goals and kept the Caldwell to a late Kassaleh goal the rest of the way.
Kassleh continued to add to her record breaking season with five goals to reach 59 for the season. Schenck tallied two goals in the loss. Lucia totaled three groundballs and two draw controls. Timmes finished with three groundballs, three caused turnovers and one draw control
In net, sophomore
Elizabeth Ruedemann (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) recorded seven saves in 40 minutes in net. Sophomore
Nancy Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) came on in relief as she posted five saves over the final 20 minutes.
Timmes, playing in her fourth season for the Cougars, is one of the original players to compete in the program's inaugural season in 2014. She currently ranks second all-time with 93 groundballs and is the all-time leader with 66 caused turnovers and 54 games played.
The Cougars wrap up the regular season as they travel to Philadelphia University on Saturday, April 22 for a pivotal Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up at 12 pm.
