CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader to Nyack College. The Warriors took the opener 9-4 and won the nightcap 4-2.

The Cougars fall to 10-20 overall, while the Warriors improve to 18-13 on the season.

Nyack took the lead in the fourth with two runs. Caldwell answered in the bottom of the inning as freshman
Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) led off with a single. Senior
Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) drew a walk and both runners scored on a triple by sophomore
Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to tie the game. Junior
Daniel Gregor (Monroe, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly to put the Cougars up 3-2.

The Warriors added to their lead with three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh. Caldwell loaded the bases with one out in the seventh. Senior
Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch to force in a run but Caldwell came up short in the opener.

Justin Picinic (River Vale, N.J.) fell to 2-3 on the season as he tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits and struck out three. Junior
Christopher Cerf (Ramsey, N.J.) tossed 2/3 of an inning, allowing two unearned runs on two hits, while freshman
Nick Cerbone (Bayonne, N.J.) pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing one run on two hits. Freshman
Jason Salva (West Haverstraw, N.Y.) recorded three strikeouts in the final inning, allowing one run on two hits.

Nyack took the early lead with a run in the second inning. Caldwell tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Rivera reached on an infield single. He moved to second on a ground out and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Zosulis singled home Rivera as Caldwell cut the score to 2-1.

The Cougars took the lead in the third inning as junior
Paul Marinello (Freehold, N.J.) was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Marinello moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Bernstein single. Nyack tied the score in the fourth and added runs in the fifth and sixth as they held on for the win.

Joshua Caba (Belleville, N.J.) tossed four innings, allowing three runs on three hit and struck out four as he fell to 2-4 on the season. Freshman
Michael Hess (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) struck out four in three innings in relief as he allowed one unearned run on three hits.

The Cougars travel to Dominican College on Friday, April 21 for a doubleheader at noon at Palisades Credit Union Park in Pomona, NY.
