LANTANA, Fla.- The Caldwell University baseball team opened its 2017 season with a 6-5 victory over Florida Memorial University in ten innings. The Cougars open the season at 1-0, while the Tigers fall to 5-16-1.

Sophomore
Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drove in the Cougars' first run of the season with a fourth inning double. Caldwell added two more in the fifth inning as freshman
Daniel Gregor (Monroe, N.J.) added an RBI single in the inning as the Cougars took a 3-2 lead.

Florida Memorial took the lead in the sixth with two runs but the Cougars rallied in the later innings. Junior
Paul Marinello (Freehold, N.J.) singled with one out in the seventh. He stole second and third. Senior
Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) singled home Marinello to tie the game at 4-4.

The teams traded runs in the eighth inning as freshman
Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) drove in a run on a groundout. The score remain tied as the game headed to extra innings.

In the tenth, senior
Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) doubled to lead off the inning. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Zosulis drove in the eventual winning run with a single.

Rivera went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Bernstein went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Cougars are back in action on Friday, March 10 against Felician University at 11 am at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Lantana, FL. Â
