SPARKILL, N.Y.- Caldwell University softball junior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) blasted two homeruns as the Cougars swept a doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas. The Cougars took the opener 6-1 and completed the sweep with a 14-2 win in six innings in the nightcap.

In the opener, St. Thomas Aquinas took the early lead with a run in the second inning. Senior
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, Fla.) led off the inning with a single and scored on a Monasseri two-run homerun. The Cougars added to their lead as sophomore
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) reached base on an error and sophomore
Hannah Polak (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) singled. Junior
Katelyn Johnson (Denville, N.J.) singled to load the bases with two outs. Freshman
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) added two more runs for the Cougars with a single.

Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, N.J.) improved to 6-3 on the season as she tossed a complete game, allowing one run on six hits and struck out six.

In the nightcap, Caldwell took advantage of an error in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Cougars loaded the bases with one out in the third inning. Junior
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, Calif.) singled to put Caldwell up 2-0.

In the fourth, the Cougars loaded the bases with one out. Frye scored from third base on a passed ball. Monasseri cleared the bases with a three-run homerun to extend their lead to 6-0. Caldwell added two runs in the fifth inning as Silva drew a leadoff walk. Freshman
Kelle Lalier (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) blasted a two-run homerun.
