CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University softball freshman
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) went 3-for-3 and earned the save in the nightcap as the Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Nyack College. Caldwell took the opener 4-2 and completed the sweep with a 10-5 win in the nightcap.

The Cougars win their eighth in a row to improve to 12-7 overall and 6-0 in the CACC, while the Warriors drop to 1-19 and 0-4 in conference play.

Caldwell did their damage in the opening inning as they scored four runs. Senior
Amy Hickman (Jackson, N.J.) reached on an error to start the inning. Freshman
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) doubled to put runners at second and third. Junior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) singled to drive in two runs.

The inning continued as sophomore
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) doubled as Monasseri reached third base. Sophomore
Hannah Polak (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) singled to put Caldwell up 3-0. Junior
Katelyn Johnson (Denville, N.J.) drove in Testa with a groundout to put the Cougars up 4-0.

Senior
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, N.J.) tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on two hits and struck out a season-high 11 to improve to 7-3 on the season.

In the nightcap, the Cougars got three runs in the opening inning. Johnston ripped a single to score two runs and later scored in the inning on an error. Nyack added two runs in the third but Caldwell answered in their half of the inning. Freshman
Kelle Lalier (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) drove in a run with a base hit.

The Cougars added two runs in the fourth inning as Monasseri and Johnston ripped run scoring singles. The Warriors tacked on two runs in the sixth and added one in the seventh. Caldwell plated four runs in the sixth as Johnston posted an RBI single in the inning.

Freshman
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) earned the win as she tossed five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and struck out two. Johnston picked up the save in relief as she tossed the final two innings, allowing one run on four hits and struck out one.

The Cougars host Pace University on Thursday, March 30 at 3 pm at Caldwell Field. Â
