CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team lost two games to Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader. The Wildcats rallied to take the opener 9-6 and completed the sweep with a 6-1 win in the nightcap.

Caldwell falls to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the CACC, while the Wildcats improve to 12-8 and 6-2 in conference play.

Wilmington got a pair of runs in the opening inning to take the lead. Caldwell answered in the bottom of the first with three runs. Junior
Paul Marinello (Freehold, N.J.) led off the inning with a double. Senior
Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) ripped a triple to score Marinello with the first run of the game. Senior
Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) dropped in a single to tie the score at 2-2. Following two ground outs that moved Bernstein to third, junior
Rob DeSanti (Barneget, N.J.) put the Cougars ahead 3-2 with a run-scoring single.

Caldwell added a run in the fourth and plated two more in the fifth. Rivers drew a one-out walk in the fifth, while Bernstein was hit by a pitch. Junior
Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, N.Y.) extended the Cougars led to 6-2 with a two-run triple.

The Wildcats rallied back in the later innings. Wilmington took the lead in the seventh as they scored five runs. They added a run in the eighth and one in the ninth to extend their lead.

Freshman
Michael Hess (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) got the start, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs (one earned) and nine hits, while striking out three. Sophomore
Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, N.J.) tossed one inning, allowing one run on three hits. Junior
Daniel Gregor (Monroe, N.J.) closed out the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run.

In the nightcap, the Cougars were limited to two hits in the game as the Wildcats scored six runs in the middle innings.

Jason Salva (West Haverstraw, N.J.) tossed four innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits and struck out three. Freshman
Nick Cerbone (Bayonne, N.J.) pitched two innings, allowing one hit, while freshman
Raymond Ramos (Bloomfield, N.J.) tossed a scoreless inning.
