CLERMONT, Fla.- The #18 Caldwell University softball team fell to the University of Charleston 9-1 in six innings in their final game at the National Training Center Complex. Their second game against Edinboro University was cancelled due to rain.

The Cougars fall to 4-4 on the season, while the Golden Eagles improve to 6-5.

Caldwell got their run in the first inning as senior
Amy Hickman (Jackson, N.J.) reached base on an infield single. Junior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) and sophomore
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) drew walks to load the bases with one out. Sophomore
Hannah Polak (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) hit a sacrifice fly to put Caldwell up 1-0.

The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the second inning and added five in the third on their way to a 9-1 win in six innings.

Freshman
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) tossed 2 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and struck out one. Sophomore
Alexa Toner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and struck out two.

Caldwell's day ended early as their second scheduled game of the afternoon against Edinboro was cancelled due to rain.

The Cougars continue their Florida trip as they travel to #10 Saint Leo University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 14 at 11 am.
