SAINT LEO, Fla.- The #18 Caldwell University softball team lost a pair of games against #10 Saint Leo University. The Lions took the opener 5-0 and won the nightcap 12-3 in five innings.

The Cougars fall to 4-6, while the Lions improve to 23-6.

In the opener, Caldwell was limited to six hits as senior
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, Fla.) went 2-for-3. Senior hurler
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, N.J.) tossed a complete game, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits and struck out four to fall to 3-2.

In the nightcap, Saint Leo scored four runs in the opening inning to take an early lead. Caldwell battled back in the third inning as Frye reached base on a fielder's choice. Senior
Amy Hickman (Jackson, N.J.) drew a walk to put runners at first and second.

Freshman
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) singled to score Frye with Hickman moving to third. Hickman score the second Caldwell run on a passed ball. The Lions extended their lead with a run in the third and three in the fourth inning.

The Cougars added a run in the fifth as Hickman scored on an error in the inning. Saint Leo plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits to fall to 0-1 on the season. Freshman
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits. Â
