CLERMONT, Fla.- The #18 Caldwell University softball team dropped a pair of games on day two of the Florida trip. The Cougars lost to #25 Southern New Hampshire University 2-0 and fell to Ashland University 3-2.

The Cougars falls to 1-3 on the season. The Penmen improve to 6-1, while the Eagles improve to 6-9.

Caldwell was limited to three hits in their loss to Southern New Hampshire. Senior
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, N.J.) tossed a complete game in the loss, allowing two runs on five hits and struck out five.

In the second game against Ashland, the Cougars got on the board with two runs in the third inning. Freshman
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and junior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) singled with one out. Sophomore
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Rini. Freshman
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) singled home Monasseri for a 2-0 Caldwell lead.

The Eagles got all three of their runs in the fourth innings. Johnston tossed a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and struck out one. Monasseri went 3-for-4, while Rini and senior
Amy Hickman (Jackson, N.J.) each collected two hits in the game.

The Cougars continue their Florida trip as they Franklin Pierce University and Slippery Rock University on Saturday, March 11. Â
