PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) tallied a season-high 33 points to lead the Cougars to an 88-50 victory over Philadelphia University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars improve to 20-4 overall and 15-1 in the CACC, while the Rams fall to 12-13 and 7-9 in conference play.
Caldwell got off to a fast start as they scored the first 10 points of the game. Drogsler drained a triple and added a three-point play to help the Cougars build an early lead.
The Cougars held the Rams to a pair of field goals in the first quarter as they led 21-7 after the opening quarter. Drogsler netted 12 points in the opening quarter to lead Caldwell to a double-digit lead.
Caldwell extended their lead to as much as 28 points late in the second quarter at 45-17. The Cougars connected on seven triples in the quarter with Drogsler going 4-for-5 from downtown. Sophomore
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) added nine points in the quarter as Caldwell held a 50-27 lead at halftime.
The Cougars maintained their lead into the second half as they pulled ahead by 40 points late in the fourth quarter. Caldwell earned their 20th victory for a second consecutive season and remain tied for first place in the North Division.
Drogsler posted her fourth double-double of the season as she finished with 33 points and 11 rebounds. She chipped in eight assists and three blocks, while shooting 11-for-17 from the field and 8-for-11 from downtown. Drogsler's eight three-pointers in the game gives her 70 for the season. Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, N.Y.), who set the program's modern era (1990-present) record for triples in a season with 65 in 2015-16. Drogsler also passed Torey Jones (2012-13) and Jennifer Carleton (2002-03), who both netted 64 in a season.
Lennon totaled 12 points, three rebounds and seven assists. Pilla added seven points, five rebounds and four assists, while junior
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) finished with four points, four boards, three assists and four steals. Junior
Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) scored 11 points in the win.
The Cougars return to their home court as they host Felician University in a CACC contest on Wednesday, February 15 at 5:30 pm.
