Sanders Posts Triple-Double in Women’s Basketball Victory over Felician

CALDWELL, N.J.- Junior Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) posted the 16th triple-double in Division II this season as the Caldwell University women's basketball team defeated Felician University 81-56 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.
 
The Cougars tie the program's single season victory record with their 21st win of the season. It is the sixth time the women's team has reached 21 victories in a season tying the mark from 1996-97, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2010-11 and 2015-16.
 
Caldwell improves to 21-4 on the season and 16-1 in the CACC to remain tied for first place in the North Division. The Golden Falcons fall to 6-19 and 5-13 in conference play.
 
The Cougars scored the first seven points of the game as Sanders converted a pair of lay-ups in the early going. Felician kept it close throughout the first quarter as they trailed by one at 16-15 after the opening period.
 
Caldwell led by as much as nine points in the second quarter as senior Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, N.Y.) drained a pair of triples. Junior Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) added a triple, while Sanders added four points in the quarter. Felician rallied back late as they trimmed the score to 37-35 at halftime.
 
The Cougars pulled away in the third quarter as Drogsler got the second half off to a strong start with a three-point play. Drogsler drained a pair of trifectas in the quarter, while sophomore Rachel Simon (Wallkill, N.Y.) added one from downtown to help Caldwell build a 59-46 lead. The Cougars maintained a double-digit advantage into the final quarter for the program's record tying 21st victory of the season.
 
Sanders turned in a career effort with her first triple-double in her three seasons with the Cougars. She finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists along with four steals. Drogsler tallied a game-high 31 points along with nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks and four steals. Pilla finished with 16 points, four boards, two assists and two steals. Pilla's four triples in the game gives her 206 for her career, moving her into second place behind Torey Jones (234: 2009-2013). Sophomore Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass.) grabbed 10 rebounds in the win.
 
The NCAA released it first regional rankings of the season today with the Cougars coming in at #4 in the East Region. The top-8 teams in the region advance to the NCAA Division II Championship. The Cougars hit the road this weekend as they travel to Bloomfield College for a pivotal CACC North Division clash against the Bears on Saturday, February 18 at 1 pm.
