CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball senior
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) netted a season-high 20 points as the Cougars rallied back from a second half deficit to defeat Queens College 66-59.
Caldwell improves to 7-2, while the Knights fall to 3-4.
The Cougars rolled out to a 12-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Senior
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) scored four points to help Caldwell build an early lead. Queens closed to gap as they pulled to within 16-11 after the opening quarter.
Queens rallied early in the second quarter as the pulled to within four points at 18-14. The Cougars pushed their lead into double digits as they used a 13-3 run extend their lead. Sanders dropped in six points, while junior
Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass.) added four points as Caldwell pushed their lead to 31-17 with 3:47 left in the first half.
The Knights battled back late in the half but Caldwell held a 34-27 lead at halftime.
Queens rallied back in the third quarter as they outscored the Cougars 22-11. The Knights took their first lead of the game late in the quarter at 49-43 and led by four heading to the final quarter.
The Knights built a 58-51 lead with 3:38 left in the game. Caldwell rallied back over the final three minutes as they closed out the game with a 15-1 run. Siscamanis connected on a pair of free throws and added a pair of buckets. Drogsler drained a pair from the line with 47 seconds left in the game to give the Cougars the lead for good. Drogsler and Sanders each connected on a pair from the line in the waning seconds to secure the win.
Sanders led the way with 20 points, five assists and four steals. Siscamanis chipped in 16 points and two assists, while Drogsler tallied 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Senior
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) added eight points and eight boards, while senior
Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) grabbed seven rebounds.
The Cougars travel to Bloomfield College for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday, December 9 at 1 pm.
