GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) drained three triples, totaling 14 points, to help lead the Cougars past Adelphi University 67-49 in a non-conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 9-2 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 5-7.
Caldwell jumped out to an early lead as they built a double-digit first quarter lead. Lennon drained a triple, while senior
Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) added a three-pointer and a jumper to put Caldwell in the lead. Senior
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) connected on a jumper to give the Cougars a 14-4 lead midway through the opening quarter.
The Cougars extended their lead to 11 points at 21-10 early in the second quarter. Adelphi trimmed the score down to 21-17 late in the second quarter but Caldwell answered with a late run. Caldwell pushed their lead back to double digits heading into halftime. Kelty drained a pair from the free throw line just before halftime to give Caldwell a 31-21 lead at the break.
Caldwell took control of the game early in the third quarter as they scored the first 11 points of the second half. Lennon drained a triple and added a three-point play as the Cougars extended their lead to 42-21 midway through the quarter. Caldwell maintained their double-digit lead the rest of the way as they secured their ninth win of the season.
Kelty posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while senior
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) chipped in 14 points and seven boards. Lennon tallied 14 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win. Drogsler finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Senior
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) totaled 10 points, four, boards, eight assists and four steals.
The Cougars host Concordia College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Tuesday, December 19 at 4 pm.
